What Exactly is a Life Insurance Agent?

First things first, let’s discuss what a life insurance agent is. A life insurance agent is a professional who helps people choose the right life insurance policy for their needs and budget.

Life insurance agents work with clients to determine how much coverage they need and what type of policy would be best suited for them. They also help their clients understand the terms and conditions of their policy and can answer any questions they have about their coverage.

According to Shawn Meaike, CEO of Family First Life, a life insurance agent’s job is “to bring peace of mind to families by helping them understand and purchase the life insurance coverage they need.”

In short, life insurance agents play a vital role in helping people protect their families financially in the event of their death.

What Does it Take to Become a Life Insurance Agent?

The first step in becoming a life insurance agent is completing your pre-licensing education. To sell life insurance in most states, you must complete a certain number of hours of pre-licensing education. This education will give you the foundation necessary to pass your state’s life insurance licensing exam.

Once you have completed your pre-licensing education and passed your state’s licensing exam, you will be ready to sell life insurance!

The skills you need to succeed as a life insurance agent are:

1) Strong people skills:

As a life insurance agent, you will work with people daily. It is important that you have strong people skills and can build relationships with your clients.

2) Good communication skills:

You will need to be able to communicate effectively with your clients in order to help them understand the complex world of life insurance.

3) Sales experience:

While not required, sales experience can help you become a successful life insurance agent.

4) Time management skills:

As an insurance agent, you will be responsible for managing your own time. Therefore, you must be able to prioritize your tasks and stay organized in order to be successful in this career.
