Pole Building Home Benefits

If you are building a house, there are a lot of decisions to make. One thing you might want to consider is building a pole barn house instead of a traditional home. Here are some reasons why.

Foundations

The foundation costs for a typical house can cost up to 15% of the total cost of building the house. Instead of spending all that money on foundation, a pole building uses load-bearing poles that are secured up to six feet into the ground. These posts are secured with concrete, so a traditional foundation doesn’t need to be poured. You can add a conventional slab with this type of building if it works better with your situation.

Trusses

The trusses in a pole building are much longer and spaced further apart than with a traditional frame house as well. This configuration can also support a heavy snow load on top of the house and strong gusts of wind. You don’t lose any strength going this route, but you will save a lot of money.

Location Adaptability

Traditional houses require a very flat space on which to build. This can take too much time and money to level out the ground. Pole buildings are much more flexible. This means you save money in construction costs, time in building your home, and can choose from a more extensive selection of locations to build.

Framing

You have more flexibility when it comes to framing the inside of your house with pole buildings. Since the weight of the building is supported by the poles instead of load-bearing walls, you can leave it completely open inside. You can also frame it to look like a regular house inside, but non-load bearing walls are less expensive to build so that you will save money.

Energy Efficient

Because there are no studs every 16” in a pole building, it is much easier to insulate. It takes less time and costs less money. Because there are fewer breaks in the insulation, it will also hold heat better, which makes it more energy efficient.

Stability

Pole buildings have a unique support system, which makes them more secure and stable than a regular house. The posts are secured in the earth using concrete, so the support is stronger. If there is a fire in your home, a traditional house will usually collapse, but a pole building will not. It can also hold up to stronger forces of nature than a traditionally built house.

Budget-Friendly

As you can already tell, building a house using a pole building structure can save you money during construction and for years to come. If you are planning on building a house soon, compare the costs of different home structures before you start. You can even talk to pole building contractors to get a more accurate representation of what it will cost. Pole buildings can be versatile in how they look, so be sure to research and find examples of how the outside construction will look as well as how the inside can be customized.
