The first thing to bear in mind when drawing up a work motivation plan is that the vast majority of people do not do a job solely for money, since they tend to place many expectations and wishes in their work experience: recognition, respect, fulfillment personal, feeling of worth, feeling useful and interacting with others. Raising salaries, therefore, is not usually an effective measure to motivate employees but is accompanied by another series of actions that have to do with job safety, personal recognition or the work environment. Various studies have identified a series of techniques as very effective for motivation. A great team environment and days where the team can boost morale is also as effective and can increase production in the long run.
Intrinsic motivation
Intrinsic motivation comes from everyone. The person performing the action does not need any external stimulus to work on a result, because the action itself guides the person to continue with the activity. The intrinsic motivation is, therefore, in the execution itself. The person, for his own reasons, is interested in that particular activity, even amuses himself with it or is simply curious about the result. It is common for employees to already have the intrinsic motivation to do a job. The main causes of this motivation are:
- Expectation of success
- Promotions
- Positive emotions for the cause of the stimulus.
At the end of the day, a person applies for a job or takes on a task because they already imagine that they are capable of carrying out that activity in a long-lasting and intensive way. For example, a recent computer science graduate decides to do an internship as a tester because they like to work with precision and detect errors. Therefore, they analyze the work from a positive perspective, showing curiosity about the challenges that arise. In addition, the internship is a good starting point, since with it you can meet specific expectations: learn something new, receive training for positions with more responsibility, make contact with a specific industry, etc.
