Standing Desks With Treadmills: Yes, They’re A Thing

If you thought that the traditional sit-down office desk was going to be around forever, then you’re sadly mistaken. Innovators all over the world are now trying to update the concept of the office desk and change it into something kinder to the human frame.

For practically every century before the present, people were incessantly active. They would get up at dawn, tend their crops, look after their animals and go out foraging for food.

With the advent of the modern world, though, that all changed. We no longer have activity built into our days – unless we’re athletes. Instead, we slump in front of computers, sit on chairs, and generally do very little in the way of physical activity.

Research, however, points out that this isn’t particularly good for us. We desperately need movement to remain healthy and reduce the chance of cardiovascular problems. So now the idea is to stand while working and, even better, walk on a treadmill at the same time to simulate our primordial environment.

As the following infographic shows, nobody is expecting people to walk the whole time they are at work. But these standing desks are suitable for when workers want to stretch their legs quickly or when there’s a break in typing.

If you’d like to learn more about the pros and cons of standing desks – including those with treadmills under them – please continue reading the following graphic. You’ll learn the costs and benefits as well as how to use them in the best way possible.
